Twin Peaks Dinner

Last weekend, Adrienne and Hugh let us crash their Twin Peaks pad to prepare a vegetarian dinner for 25 guests. Peter bought a mortar and pestle, in the shape of a pig of course, to make handmade pesto, and he used the cutest baby parsnips and carrots from Monterey Market for the main entree. Recession, Depression, Iron Chef Dinners

It's been a while since I've posted. My apologies. Life's been good, but busy. I've moved in the past month and finally have internet at home. Wow. Me without internet at home all these years?

Canvas Underground hosted 2 events since the last posting:
- Depression Dinner "Eat Like It's 1933"
- Iron Chef Lemon: Cyn vs. Peter

Depression Dinner "Eat Like It's 1933"
The multi-talented actress-comedienne-accordionist, Jennifer Justice, hosted the Depression Dinner, emceed by Dave Kim. I was able to sit back relax, and drink nearly a whole bottle of syrah all by myself. At my table were familiar faces, Stephanie and Maggie, who had brought friends who hadn't been for a couple years. Candy Churilla of "Last Comic Standing" and Ben Feldman performed stand-up. We had the best damn fried chicken ever, and who knew vinegar pie could be so good (imagine Pecan Pie without the pecans). Susie W. of Foodzie.com captured the night on video, click here to check it out>>

Iron Chef Lemon: Chef Cyn vs. Peter Jackson

This was an experimental event using 2 identical spaces, a total of 55 guests were split into 2 living rooms of a TIC unit in the Mission. We connected the two homes via webcams, a pulldown screen and projector. It turned out to be too dark to see each other, but we could certainly hear the buzz in each other's spaces.

Cyn beat Peter by 1 point on average. All guests swooned Cynthia's honey glazed quail and wild mushroom bread pudding. Peter's arugula, shaved asparagus and artichoke salad also scored high marks, but the plating could have been a bit more composed. Guests also swooned over bluegrass guitarist, JL Stiles, debuted his new LP, including a performance of "Still Without You." More photos on the Flickr page>>
